Personalities and Portraits
When I saw my niece Stephanie’s all over purple hair on a post on Facebook, I told her it was shoot time! My mind was racing with so many different ideas, but really I just wanted to highlight that Purple Hair!
So we set up an evening to meet and I took her to my super secret spot in Springfield. This spot has never failed me because of it’s diversity and I have used it twice now for senior portraits. I love it because the textures and looks I can get here, I can not get anywhere else in town.
I decided I wanted to get a little creative with this shoot. Instead of the normally sweet and lighthearted pictures I normally take, the purple hair screamed edgy and a little bad a$$. So I described it to her that we would shoot more like an anime. In most anime, woman are generally shown one of two ways. Either a cutesy little girl or a rebel willing to fight. We chose the later. I gave Steph some cues and we were off.
This wasn’t a big departure from Stephanie’s character, she can be serious and you don’t want to get on her bad side 😉
As for me, usually my portrait editing style is typically clean and simple, not very elaborate or arts-y in the least. So I tried to shoot and edit these a little differently.
In all honesty, Stephanie’s purple hair is just an extension of her beautiful and vibrant personality. She can pull it off. And why not. Stephanie is young and enjoying living life as much as possible. She doesn’t take crap from anyone. The purple hair is only here for the moment. Fleeting. So will youth one day as well. So I say live it! Make mistakes! Get piercings and die your hair (* I would like to note that even though I say Stephanine is young, she is actually 21 and therefore an adult.) Live in the moment and have some one capture it!
